Episode 140 - A Man Called Sarge (1990)

Cannon Films tackled a lot of weird genres over their brief existence, but one of the lesser known tries involved parody. In fact, 1990's A Man Called Sarge is one of the few examples of an Airplane style parody done outside of the larger studio system. The main difference is that the humor is a lot more scattershot in quality from what you might expect from a Top Secret or Hot Shots Part Deux that were more well known from the era.

That said, it's not boring, and there's always something new to see. Overall, it's a fun time, though not anything all too out there. Check out the full episode to see how it works out!

Episode 138 - Keaton's Cop (1990)

This one was a bit of a surprise. Essentially a buddy cop comedy (of sorts) starring Lee Majors and Abe Vigoda, this is really Abe Vigoda's show as a reformed gangster dodging assassins and figuring out just who is after him. It's not quite as wild as it could be, but it's also not quite as slow as it is frequently portrayed as, yet it is very engaging from start to finish.

Keaton's Cop won't be anyone's favorite Cannon movie, but it's hard to not admire its spirit and its commitment to entertaining the audience. It's just an all around good time. Check the episode to see what that means.

Episode 112 - Death Warrant (1990)

You might be doing a double take at the inclusion of this film. Wasn't Death Warrant an MGM film? Well, actually, not really. Originally titled Dusted, this movie was made by Cannon Films but held up due to the company going bankrupt at the time. Though it was released by MGM, it is actually a Cannon movie.

That said, it's not quite what you'd expect from a Van Damme flick, being more of an eerie and surreal prison movie with spikes of action here and there. Eventually, however, Death Warrant culminates in a finale worthy of both Van Damme and Cannon. You definitely won't find another movie quite like it in either of their oeuvres.

Episode 91 - Season 06 Wrap-Up

We finally made it!

After over a year in production, and many real world events, Cannon Cruisers season 6 has finally been brought to a close. It's been a long journey, and we are glad to finally move on to the next season and bit of Cannon Films history.

Check out this extra long episode as we wrap it up in style. Can we even remember everything we covered? you'll have to tune in to find out!

Episode 89 - Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection (1990)

We're back, and with more Chuck Norris! We've been waiting for another Cannon action flick. This is the long-awaited sequel to the megahit vehicle The Delta Force. After near half a decade it is finally here. Does it stack up?

Episode 88 - Midnight Ride (1990)

Welcome to the new year! We're still not quite done with our season yet, though. We've got a few more Cannon goodies to share with you!

Up next is this late night thriller starring Mark Hamill and Michael Dudikoff from 1990. It's not a very standout film aside from the execution which makes it far more memorable than you might figure. It also has better stunts than a lot of movies like this would normally have. We discuss it in the episode above. Give this one a watch. You might be surprised.

Nonetheless, Cannon's 1990 has been much more interesting than their 1989. Can they keep it up? You'll have to keep listening to Cannon Cruisers to find out! For now it's still quite an interesting company to keep with.

Episode 87 - Lambada (1990)

1989 was not a good year for Cannon, but they tried changing tact a bit with 1990. Instead of focusing on hastily assembled action movies that had nowhere near the care of their best work, they leaned harder on their lower budget work. It ended up creating an intriguing gem in Rockula and creating quite a fun little picture in Lambada.

It's not quite up their with their best, but it's a fun little picture that we enjoyed talking about. Our full impressions above should make that clear.

Episode 85 - Rockula (1990)

This was a surprise. We haven't had the best luck with musicals on Cannon Cruisers, we especially didn't enjoy the infamous bomb known as The Apple. The songs just weren't that good and the plot was confusing. However, Rockula was a very different experience from that. For one: we actually enjoyed it!

This movie is bizarre, but it uses its creativity to its advantage, creating a plot and cast of characters as memorable as its soundtrack. The result is a cult classic that deserves its cult status. If anything, it deserves a bit more attention than what it gets. Find out why in the episode above!
