Episode 138 - Keaton's Cop (1990)

This one was a bit of a surprise. Essentially a buddy cop comedy (of sorts) starring Lee Majors and Abe Vigoda, this is really Abe Vigoda's show as a reformed gangster dodging assassins and figuring out just who is after him. It's not quite as wild as it could be, but it's also not quite as slow as it is frequently portrayed as, yet it is very engaging from start to finish.

Keaton's Cop won't be anyone's favorite Cannon movie, but it's hard to not admire its spirit and its commitment to entertaining the audience. It's just an all around good time. Check the episode to see what that means.

Non-Cannon ~ Episode 108 - Street Hunter (1990)

This is a tenuous entry for Non-Cannon, being that it was produced by 21st Century Film Corp, same as other Non-Cannon's like Death Wish V and The Forbidden Dance, but that just gives us all the more reason to cover this. There was no reason for us to skip this by.

Starring Steve James (his last starring role before his unfortunate early passing), Reb Brown, and John Leguizamo, this is a movie made in 1990 that feels like it should have been made five years earlier. It's an old school low budget action movie in the era where they were beginning to die out for simultaneously gorier and sleazier affairs with more and more spectacle. We follow Logan Blade, a bounty hunter, as he chases down a gang lord who has hired a crazed mercenary as an enforcer. Can he clean up the streets before they are burned to the ground? You can listen to our full episode to learn if it can!

There isn't anything particularly noteworthy about Street Hunter, but there also isn't anything egregious, either. It is the perfect movie to signify an era that was fading away at the time it released, and is looked back on fondly today. Hopefully this one can get the proper restoration, giving Steve James' final work the preservation it deserves. As it is, it's merely a good work from a great era.

Episode 137 - Aladdin (1986)

Here is a triple decker of weirdness. It's a 1980s family movie, it's made by Cannon Films, and it is Italian. Those are three aspects that do not tend to blend together well, but in this case, it somehow works out to make a surprisingly fun experience.

Aladdin, known in Italian as Superfantagenio, is a goofy family comedy, with an escalation you have to see to believe, and starring one of the true heavyweights of the Italian world, Bud Spencer himself, to deliver a movie somewhat out of its time, and yet is one that could only be made at the time it was, before family filmmaking became standardized in the 1990s with the PG-13 and G rating. Check this one out for an experience you might not quite expect.

As always, we reveal more in the full episode!

Episode 136 - Number One with a Bullet (1987) [Revisited]

Now this is a re-watch we probably shouldn't have done, but did anyway. It ended up being both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because it gave us a lot to talk about that we otherwise wouldn't have discussed. It is a curse because the movie ended up being worse than the first time we saw it, and for reasons we get into in the episode.

There is too much to talk about in a short description, so dive into today's instalment to figure out just why it falls so much flatter on a re-watch. Believe me, we were not expecting to dislike this one as much as we did, and not for the reasons you might think.

Episode 135 - Seed of Innocence (1980)

This time we managed to find one of Cannon's earliest movies, and one of the hardest to find, and finally manage to give it a watch. It's a bit out of joint for their usual fair, at least to a certain point. We explain what that means in the episode.

It's not quite what you expect from Cannon, but at the same time it kind of is. You'll see. Nonetheless, it manages to be a decent watch overall.
